What's the Issue? - The Emperor Has No Clothes

What's the Issue? - The Emperor Has No Clothes

Author: By Tomas Yoko

If there was an Olympic event for hypocrisy, I'd struggle to pick a winner. Washington, Brussels, Moscow, Kyiv, Jerusalem and Pretoria would all be standing on the podium demanding a recount.

Let's start with America. This is supposed to be the most powerful nation on Earth. The military giant. The economic powerhouse. The self-appointed guardian of democracy. Now reduced to being Bibi's lackey, sacrificing its people at the altar of Baal. Bibi is back in Washington once again, and to me it looks less like a diplomatic visit and more like the Boss coming to crack the whip. Is America asleep, in the face of overwhelming evidence that the American government is behaving like an amber snail infected by the green-banded broodsac, they should be protesting Bibi's involvement in their government, but none seem to even waive a placard. American pride reduced to shame and disgust the world over.

Then there's Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelensky, in his disrespectful and theatrical trademark olive-green T-shirt, continues his rounds of Western capitals seeking more weapons, more money and more commitments, to send more young Christian white Ukrainians to their death. Perhaps that's his job. Western governments seem to be infected by the same Leucochloridium paradoxum when speaking of war with Russia, using Ukrain as fodder. Peace talks are treated as a joke, mountains of taxpayer Dollars and Euros keep getting shoved into the their laundromat, but there is no budget for the homeless or the poor and sick. Western leaders rubbing their hands together and smacking the drool off their lips as the urge their people towards another holocaust war with Russia.

Meanwhile, Gaza burns. This is where my patience with the international community evaporates completely. In my opinion, history will judge what has happened in Gaza with extraordinary harshness. Whether international courts ultimately attach the legal label of genocide is for them to determine, but I believe the scale of civilian suffering, destruction and death has already crossed every conceivable moral line. The endless diplomatic language about "deep concern" has become an insult to anyone watching families buried beneath concrete while the media and governments debate terminology. War crimes a dozen a day and the UN, NATO, USA, EU, and almost every other organization seems paralysed by fear, or have turned two blind eyes.

Back home, we continue our own unique brand of national self-sabotage. South Africa legislators ignore the signs of BBBEE's economic damage and now implement a one hundred billion Rand power grab in a new development tax. In my opinion, every new empowerment levy, compliance burden and ideological experiment pushes investment a little further away while politicians congratulate themselves for their visionary leadership.

Then Julius Malema appears with another collection of economic fairy tales, he promises to nationalise vacant land and vacant building and just 'give them to the youth'. A brilliant strategy. As if that isn't enough, taxpayers are expected to swallow reports of public officials running up eye-watering hotel bills while ordinary South Africans struggle to put fuel in their cars and food on their tables. Corruption investigators resign amid controversy, inquiries disappear into the mist, and accountability remains the rarest commodity in the Republic.

Perhaps that's what disgusts me most is not the wars, not the politics, not even the corruption. It's the astonishing ability of our leaders, everywhere, to look suffering squarely in the face, issue a carefully worded press statement, pose for the cameras and carry on as though civilisation isn't quietly dismantling itself before our eyes.

The emperor has no clothes. The tragedy is that far too many people are still applauding.
