Finding Its Footing:

JMC Vigus Double Cab 4x4 Road Report

South Africa's bakkie market is not an easy one to break into, yet the JMC Vigus Double Cab 4x4 slots into the lineup with far more confidence than a newcomer has any right to.

Styling first, because first impressions matter. The Vigus wears a bold front end, strong shoulder lines, and a stance that holds its own next to any of the established double cabs on the road, without leaning on borrowed design cues to get noticed.

Under the bonnet, a 2.5-litre turbodiesel produces 123 kW and 430 Nm, delivered through a smooth 8-speed automatic gearbox. Power arrives early and stays consistent, making overtaking on open highway stretches effortless rather than a wait-and-hope exercise. Paired with a proper ladder-frame chassis, the ride stays composed whether loaded up or running empty.

Off the tar is where the Vigus earns real respect. The BorgWarner four-wheel-drive system, complete with a low-range transfer case, tackled loose gravel and steep inclines with genuine composure, backed by hill-descent control that took the anxiety out of technical descents.

Inside, the 12.8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside a crisp digital instrument cluster, brings a level of tech that punches well above expectations for the price point.

Backed by a 5-year/200 000 km warranty and a 4-year/65 000 km service plan, the Vigus makes a compelling case on peace of mind alone. Add strong looks, real off-road ability, and a genuinely capable engine, and this is a double cab that deserves serious consideration on any bakkie shortlist.
