Please help Senzie and Snakho

Please help Senzie and Snakho

Author: Kasia Yoko

Senzeni (Senzie) Gcwensa was born and raised in KwaMaphumulo. She is 32 years old. In 2013 Senzie fell pregnant and enjoyed a full uneventful pregnancy with no complications. Senzie gave birth to a baby girl on 30 May 2014 by an emergency C-section due to Mom's high blood pressure, which spiked to 220 and left her baby in distress. The new-born Snakho was not placed in an incubator, which led to brain damage and Cerebral Palsy.

Snakho is now nine years old and requires full day care. She is a happy and sweet child that smiles a lot and seldom cries but Senzie struggles daily with her feeds, which are fed through a tube Senzie also needs to travel to Luthuli Hospital twice a month to have Snakho checked out and to get her medication.

"Life in the township is hard. People do not understand my child's illness and my boyfriend's family do not want anything to do with us, as they also don't get my child's illness." Senzie confides in The Bugle, "Keeping my child alive is a daily struggle and I do what I can with what I have." Senzie tells The Bugle, "The grant does not cover the special needs my child requires and it is just impossible to go out and work because she needs constant care. I need help."

Senzie needs us to help her with everyday essentials; she needs nappies, the special formula Pediasure and transport for her monthly hospital visits, as she needs to travel by Uber because taxis refuse to take Snakho. Anyone who can assist with any donations or assistance for Senzie and Snakho is asked to please contact Jacqui Muir on 083 534 7047.
