Rucita lives her passion

Rucita lives her passion

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2016-04-15
Rucita Naidoo always knew what she wanted to do with her life. Influenced by the warm family cooking traditions, her happy place was always in the kitchen, with her family, preparing feasts that would not only fuel their tummies but also their souls.

Recently Rucita was chosen by her peers at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where she has been working since 2013, to take part in the Cape Legends Inter Hotel Challenge. The contest offers a prize that could take her to Prague for three weeks to work under some of the world's best Michelin Star chefs.

Speaking to The Bugle, Rucita, who is from Verulam, could not hide her excitement; "From an early age I was included in the family cooking sessions at my home, where every weekend my aunties would cook up a storm. It was the start of something meaningful for me the start of a life passion."

Having been mentored by Beverly Hills' Sous Chef, Jody Gillespie, Rucita now hopes that through the Cape Legends Inter Hotel Challenge, she can further her personal growth and acquire the knowledge to someday start something of her own.

Cape Legends Inter Hotel Challenge encourages a culture of mentorship and promotes skills development in the hospitality industry; it also has all the exciting elements of a great competition. It's fun as well as life changing for the participants, who are exposed to the highest level of professionalism. The competition also gives a mutual boost to the wine and hospitality industries, which are both looking to identify and groom tomorrow's great sommeliers.

The Challenge has been an exciting and important platform for people with potential and drive; professionals who want to hone their skills and advance their careers. One of the best examples is Tinashe Nyamudoka, a former winning wine steward, who is now the sommelier at The Test Kitchen, one of South Africa's most celebrated restaurants.

You can help Rucita reach her dream, on the 25th May and 1 JuneBeverly Hills Hotel will be organising intimate lunches for six diners.
