X Marks The Spot

X Marks The Spot

Test-driving the new BMW X1 took a whole new direction for me, which I was not expecting. Snug is the word that slowly but surely crept into my consciousness the more I drove it.

I don't want to appear nonchalant, however I do get to drive a lot of cars, not all, but a lot, and the BMW X1 did not take me by surprise, but it crept into my perceptions one millimetre at a time. It just kept on getting things right, like the rear seats that move laterally forward and backwards as well as reclining and then, if you want, they flip forward and create a cavernous space that takes some filling.

I enjoy the BMW environment, the ergonomic sensory experience of the interior and its interface. I respond positively to the feedback from the indicators and switches and dials. I feel comfortable with the layout of BMW's design, and with the X1 I slowly felt more and more at home in this car.

It is not too fast, and is no slouch, in Sport mode it can be really exciting. The throaty exhaust gives just enough to not be embarrassing while at the same time still creates the desired effect.

The xDrive all wheel drive system made enthusiastic driving that much more exciting and gave me a feeling of confidence, even in very tight corners.

This car really felt more like a glove, the more I drove it, the more I liked it. Take the X1 for a test drive, or any of the X range for that matter.
