Ashton Debutantes And Squires Raise R65000 For Charity
Earlier this year, excited students in Forms 2 and 3 (15 year olds) and a few brave matrics, registered for the 2018 Debutantes and Squires Programme under the guidance of Miss Deneil Habig.
"This year I organised various fundraising events which included a great golf day held at Umhlali Country Club securing a platinum sponsorship from Fairmont Zimbali, a live show, Marriage for Dummies in the Grace Hall, a few raffles, a Princess and Super Heroes Day to name a few." Miss Habig.
"The young ambassadors were allowed to use their own initiative in the fundraising efforts, and every Debutante and Squire is congratulated on the way they embraced the programme, and remained committed right to the very end. Ashton was also very fortunate in welcoming Varsity College Durban North Campus on board for the programme, which boosted the coffers."
The programme culminated in the Masked Ball themed awards Ball, which was held at the picturesque Collisheen Estate Weddings and Functions venue on Friday, 14 September.
At the function, young Ashton ambassadors were recognised for their achievement in raising a whopping R65 000 for charities identified by the Debutantes and Squires. Proud family members, friends, the Management and Staff of Ashton International were there to celebrate this great achievement and the announcement of the winning Debutantes and Squires. Over the past six years, the programme has raised just under R5 000 000 for charity.
"We were also very honoured that the representatives from the various nominated charities were able to join us at this occasion," she added.,"We really captured every opportunity to do the fundraising and at the same time, encourage participating by each registered student," said Miss Habig. The winning Debutantes on equal points were Courtney and Tatum Toweel, followed by Squire Storm Rothbarth and Samantha Carver clinched the third spot.
"We believe that these youngsters have over the past seven years made a considerable impact on the lives of others and shared a little bit of their magic with those people so desperately in need of assistance", said Mrs Jenny van Buuren, Head of the Senior College.
