Date: 2016-03-25
Sembcorp Siza Water took part with the National Water Week on the 17th March, 40 learners were hosted at Salt Rock Country Club. Water has No Substitute, is the theme for 2016 National Water Week which runs from 14 - 22 March, and aims to bring about awareness of the importance of conserving this most valuable resource, which is seriously threatened by pollution and excessive usage.

The event took place at Salt Rock Country Club on - the 17th of March and began with a welcoming address by one of Sembcorp Siza Water Directors, Dr. Mokoape. Dr. Mokoape gave a speech on the importance of water, and enlightened the learners on the current drought and the importance of water in everyday life.

All schools were challenged to enter a, Water Quality "Create a Model Competition" showcasing ways to ensure best water quality. Shakaskraal Primary School won the competition with their desalination model.

Ritasha Sukdeo, Senior Process Controller at Sembcorp Siza Water took the kids to an exciting presentation about water quality where she introduced "No Pink, No Drink" slogan. Ritasha demonstrated by putting a chlorine tablet in 10ML test tube, which is half of the test tube. The DPD No 4 tablet is a test tablet formulated to give a colour tint in water, its reacts with the chlorine present water and the "Pink" colour indicates it's safe to drink. Learners had fun testing with their test tubes and tablets.

Shyam Misra, Managing Director Sembcorp Siza Water reminded the learners on the importance of saving water and emphasised for learners to take the message to their peers and homes.
