ACDP speaks out boldly against gay marriage

ACDP speaks out boldly against gay marriage

Date: 2013-04-26
The ACDP has denounced the recent gay marriage that took place in Kwadukuza. The party also expressed its disappointment with local newspapers and accused them for sensationalizing this story and giving it more coverage than it deserved. Local ACDP councillor, Rev Nel Sewraj said: "Same-sex marriage may be a lawful in this country but it still violates the moral code of most societies. So this story should never have made headline news or been given so much coverage. Even some of the photographs should not have been published publicly because many readers found it despicable."

The party appreciated the community's outcry and responses that followed media reports of this marriage. Speaking for the ACDP, Cllr Sewraj said that while the ACDP would like to commend the persons who wrote letters to media to express their revulsion, the party also cautioned the community not to have double-standards: "I find it strange that, in spite of the fact of people being repulsed by this gay marriage, they will still vote for parties like the ANC and DA which protect and support gay rights. People must not support political parties that promote such immoralities in our communities."

Councillor Sewraj also commented on King Goodwill Zwelithini's response to the gay Zulu wedding held in Kwadukuza: "While the king's concern may be justified, it is nonetheless hypocritical. The king is nauseated by a gay marriage in Kwadukuza and yet his party, the IFP supports gay marriages and has a clause of equal rights of sexual orientation in the IFP constitution. The king must change the IFP's sexual orientation policies before anyone can take his comments seriously."

The ACDP has once again echoed its stance on the issue of gays and same-sex marriages. It assures the community that it has never supported the same-sex marriage bill act, and never will. The ACDP unequivocally states that it is committed to protecting the sanctity of marriage as being between a male and female. They believe that this view is shared and supported not only by Christians and other major religious groups, but also by many other ordinary South Africans.

Councillor Sewraj said: "The South African Constitution may approve of same-sex marriages but that does not make it right. The ACDP is the only party that did not vote in favour of the South African Constitution. We don't have double standards. We continue to call for a constitutional amendment that will preserve the traditional definition of marriage as between a man and a woman."

Councillor Sewraj has also sounded a word of caution to the community regarding the gay issue. He said that "although we as the public are constantly exposed to gays on television, in the movies, on radio, and in the newspapers, we must not become accustomed to gays being a normal part of our society. The goal of gay lobbyists is to desensitize normal society to the perversion and pathology of the gay condition. The Bible is our ultimate authority on the matter and, according to it, same-sex marriage is sin."
