Date: 2014-11-21

The Oyster Box hosted an extra special High Tea this week to hand over a R10 000 cheque to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) KZN Region, raised during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During October, the Oyster Box's popular High Teawas pink-themed, with R10 per person attending the daily event, going towards furthering the work of CANSA. At the event the regional office also took the opportunity of hosting other donors and supporters of the various CANSA projects and initiatives in the province including Stepup500, City Couriers, BMI and SA Correctional Services.

CANSA highlights the importance of screening and early detection for breast cancer as part of its Women's Health campaign each October. Apart from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women of all races, with a lifetime risk of 1 in 35 in South Africa, according to the 2007 National Cancer Registry.

"Without the co-operation and support of our various partners, we could never achieve the results we do," said Elize Joubert, CANSA's Acting CEO. The donation was earmarked for the upgrade of a newly re-furbished care facility called the CANSA Durban Care Centre, that offers support to cancer patients and their families.

Wayne Coetzer, General Manager of The Oyster Box, said that the hotel was proud to be a part of something that is genuinely making a difference to the lives of people suffering from Cancer. He also pledged support to assist in other ways such asthe donation of bedding, cosmetics and other items, the hotel no longer has use for, but that could make a huge impact on the variousinitiatives and projects run by CANSA.
