Kosi Bay No Longer - The 4 X 4 Club!
Date: 2022-04-28
4 X 4 Enthusiasts will now be joining the sedans on their exploration of this remote wilderness area of iSimangaliso in northern KZN.
As owners of Kosi Bay Casitas Bush lodge we recently attended the iSimangaliso investment summit held on the 25th of March 2022. The details of the future vision for the park is of huge importance to all lodges in the area. The main themes of the summit was Commercialization and Access for all.
Commercialization refers to the main aim of the park to provide domestic and foreign investors opportunities to upgrade existing areas and the development of other areas to increase revenue generation and promote tourism.
Access for all has already begun with the road infrastructure being the most prominent development in the Kosi Bay area. Once 4 x 4 only destinations have now become available to all. These areas include a new tar road to the Lakes and the only permit office in the area, the hard packed gravel road to Bhanga Nek, well known for turtle tours and the hard packed gravel road to the Estuary. The new development identified for Kosi Bay is Lake Lodge with a Conference facility and a walking trail camp, situated on 3rd Lake. 4 x 4 adventurers do not despair! We remain a very popular destination with many remote beaches and impressive sand dunes to explore, Black Rock, Lala Nek and Rocktail Bay to name a few. The near by Tembe Elephant reserve, home to the largest tuckers in Africa, a big 5 Game Park is also a 4 x 4 only, great for exploring this sand forest ecosystem. Kosi Bay Casitas Bush Lodge offers a variety of activities for all nature lovers coming to this hidden gem. From Boat trips on the lake - 3 hours, 3 Lakes, raffia forest walks, birding and kayaking, turtle tours, exceptional snorkeling at the estuary, and a number of cultural tours promoting unique aspects of the area such as Fish trap tours and palm wine tasting to name a few. We offer camping and stand alone self catering chalets. We have a restaurant on site and a large swimming pool.
Custodians of our National Parks like iSimangaliso play a critical role in balancing tourism and conservation. Whilst we wish to preserve this world heritage site and what makes Kosi Bay unique we acknowledge the importance of promoting tourism for all in the area. We can only hope that investors and visitors alike come to this area for their love of nature and their passion to conserve this park, which is now the second largest protected area in South Africa after the Kruger National Park.
