Lizzard Surf Team Head For J Bay

Lizzard Surf Team Head For J Bay

Date: 2012-04-25
Surfers from all around South Africa will be converging on what is said to be the 'mecca' of the South African surf venue - Jeffrey's Bay - for the inaugural Bloodscan Surfing Challenge & Industry Cup. The event which takes place over the upcoming long weekend from 27 April to 1 May has attracted a colourful field of some of SA's top Open and Junior surfers.

The main attraction is the 'Industry Cup' division which entails the surf industries in the country fielding their top surfers in teams of four, and has to include a staff member of the company. Other divisions include Pro Junior girls and boys, U14 girls and boys. The prize money is another big attraction with R74,000 being divided among the various divisions and R15000 being pocketed by the Open Men's winner.

One of the strongest teams entered looks to be the Lizzard Team comprising of, Gavin Roberts (Lizzard Marketing Manager and former successful WQS campaigner), Antonio Bortoletto, Casey Grant and Klee Strachan who have also shown their success both locally and abroad in many competitions.

Another team, which could pose a challenge, is the Quiksilver team including Dane Patterson of Quiksilver, Dan Redman, Beyrick de Vries and Slade Prestwich. All four of these powerful surfers have many victories under their belts. The Volcom Team group are surfers Alan Johns, Shane Thorne, Luke Patterson and Simon Nicholson, and the Billabong team comprises Dale Staples, Sean Holmes, Shaun Payne and Raymond Robertson. There are more than fifteen teams in total taking part.

Lizzard's Gavin Roberts said "We are really amped for our weekend away in J Bay. Our team are all good friends and surfers and feel we have a good chance at winning the Industry Cup, but the competition is fierce.

Either way it is going to be a fun weekend catching up with good friends from all over the country.

I'm stoked Bloodscan have re-instated this Industry Cup Challenge"

The event will be taking place at The Point in J Bay and is being held to raise money for the Supertubes Surfing Foundation, which has been preserving the waves and beaches of Jeffrey's Bay since 1999. Other sponsors include African Bank, Black Label, Sector9, element, EP Skydivers and Red Bull.
