DRAWING WITH LIGHT

DRAWING WITH LIGHT

Date: 2017-07-14

"Photography" originating from the Greek language where "photos" means, "Light" and "GraphÈ" means "drawing". The Art of photography means "drawing with light". Capturing expression, mood and emotion are essential to both art forms. Photographers like artists are inspired by light, colour and texture, which play just as important a role in creating both a good photograph and a good painting. And photographers capture a moment that's gone forever, impossible to reproduce.

'Through the Eyes of the Artist' is a unique exhibition of spectacular photographic images, captured by the members of the Ballito Photo Club, displayed alongside the artwork inspired by these photographs and created by the North Coast Artists. The original photographic image will be displayed alongside the painted interpretation and 63 photographic images of various artists have been selected. More than 126 images will be on display and for sale during the exhibition, which will culminate in a live Charity Auction of art and photographic work in support of charity.

I had the great pleasure of meeting the Chairperson of the Ballito Photo Club, Mrs. Bebhinn Spoors who is the quintessence of fine art. That glee in her eyes is that she sees everything as picturesque and a moment to capture. I see before me, a humble creative soul who from her love for art, photography and design has dedicated her life to expressing her creativity by making Art a very significant part of her life. She has studied Graphic Design to gain the traditional and practical foundation of Art & Design. And with that comes the many hours in photographic darkrooms where it all comes alive. She has worked in Advertising and as an Art Director exploring her artistic creativity in the commercial environment allowing her to have a diverse range of creative experience.

Today she works as a freelance graphic designer and runs FLASHMOB Creative Photography Classes for beginners. For the past 5 years she has been the Chairperson of the Ballito Photography Club. The Ballito Photo Club is a photographic club of 32 very talented members and was recently placed 3rd in the annual KZN Interclub Competition!

As chairperson, Bebhinn is committed to the constant challenge of running a thriving club and keeping the artist stimulated with a variety of interesting monthly guest speakers and excursions. As an artistic being she is intrigued by both art and photography, hence the creation of this unique exhibition. Bebhinn will have 5 photographs on display. Marionette has been painted by Barbara Becke a local artist who has really brought her original photograph to life with her imaginative brush strokes and this allows us to experience the powerful quote

"There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment."
