One dish closer to a Gourmet Trip to London!

One dish closer to a Gourmet Trip to London!

Date: 2014-09-26
Saturday, October 4th will see the National Finals of The Ultimate School Cook off Competition presented by The International Hotel School kick off at their Durban Campus, which is situated at 124 Jan Hofmeyr Road in Westville.

After an exciting round of regional finals, held in September at the International Hotel School's campuses in Durban, Sandton and Cape Town, three winners were chosen in their region and will now compete in the final cook-off against one another in an effort to secure the ultimate prize of a Gourmet Trip to London in January 2015 valued at R300 000.

From the hosting city, Durban is Savannah Ashworth (17) from Danville Park Girls' High School; from Johannesburg is Layla Morris (17) from Trinity House High School Randpark Ridge; and from Cape Town is Melissa van Wyk (17) from Stellenberg High School.

Each competitor will have to cook 2 dishes - one will be a set dish which they will all prepare from the same recipe and the second one will be from a mystery basket of ingredients, so that finalists have a chance to showcase their creativity and skill in the kitchen. Once the dishes are completed, the finalists will present them to a panel of judges who will base their marking criteria on taste, texture, colour and plating skills.

"We are truly inspired by the passion and skill that each regional finalist has shown throughout the competition. We know that the national finals will be nail-biting, exciting and amazing to watch - we simply can't wait to see the 'show-down' next month, here in Durban," says Ruth Paulsen, Marketing Manager of the International Hotel School.
