Team Ford Racing Excited For Durban Street Race

Team Ford Racing Excited For Durban Street Race

Date: 2012-06-06
For the first time in the team's history, a round of the WesBank Super Series will be held in Durban as part of the Top Gear Festival. Team Ford Racing is ecstatic about the prospect of racing in front of the passionate KZN motoring fans, so much so, that the team would like to invite fans to join them for a meet and greet at Balltio Auto (6 Moffat Drive) on Wednesday 13 June between 18:00 and 20:00.

This function will build excitement and support for the team as they look to take race honours in Class T of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship.

The race event will take place on a 2.1 km street circuit running adjacent to the Moses Mabhida Stadium and will require an entirely different race strategy to those which earned the team the 2011 Championship title.

"Total, unfaltering concentration is the key to racing on a street circuit. There is no room for error and no run off areas to save you. One nudge on a wall or barrier will severely damage the car," commented team driver Gary Formato. "That being said, I relish the challenge."

Ballito based driver, Shaun Duminy had the follow to say; "I know it is going to be challenging, but firmly believe that our Castrol Ford Focus STs are up to the challenge. I think that handling is going to be more important than outright power."

The team have spent many hours working on the handling and set-up aspects of the cars, basing themselves with Jason Evans at 888 Performance in Durban North leading up to the event.

"We have been hampered in terms of performance by the series controllers as they impose a performance equalisation system which is designed to level the playing field. This sees our 2.5 litre engines being restricted on air intake and boost. Despite this, we are determined to win races," enthused Evans.

Formato currently lies second in the championship standings, with Duminy in third.

The team will race on both Saturday and Sunday. For more news and information, visit https://www.fordracingsa.co.za or follow the team on Twitter @FordRacingSA or on Facebook "FordRacingSouthAfrica".
