How to decorate your child's bedroom?

How to decorate your child's bedroom?

Date: 2013-02-28
Kids of all ages spend a lot of time in their rooms; playing, studying, sleepingTherefore, it has a very large impact on their behavior, creativity, school results, quality of sleep and even their health.

When you create harmonious, balanced and supportive environment in their bedroom you empower them, so they can reach their full potential.

Involve your child in the decisions but stay in charge or it could get rather out of control. If they help make the decisions, they might have more pride in their rooms. At least that is the hope. They could decide on a rather bizarre colour scheme of course and that's where your cunning comes in. If purple and orange is their thing, then neutral walls and floor might be the order of the day with accents in their colours. Compromise doesn't always work both ways but purple walls and an orange duvet are no no's. The first time they are sick, they will seriously regret getting their way. Mummy and Daddy still have to be in charge.

  • Don't make it complicated. Mentally add their toys and projects scattered about, then decide how chaotic you want this room. Much of the colour can come from their belongings. Not that I am suggesting they should be allowed to leave their rooms littered with paraphernalia. And that leads me on to the next point.
  • Have a large, solid storage box so you, or better they, can scoop all the toys into it at the end of the day. Make sure they can't lock themselves in it
  • a specialty of entrepreneurial wee ones. And make sure the lid is not a heavy one which can snap bones. My suggestion is a lidless box on wheels so it can be transported to other rooms if really necessary and perhaps with a few compartments to separate out different types of toys.
  • Don't spend a lot on some fantastical theme room however much they nag you because they will grow out of it before you can spin around and they will be whinging about having such a babyish room now that they are all of eight years old and quite grown up.
  • Keep it simple stupid, much your creative juices are flowing and let the darlings have their individuality shine in small touches.
