The Story of Lamaeez

The Story of Lamaeez

Author: Mother Zeenath Ayoob
Date: 2013-12-06
My two year old baby, Lameez is just like any other two year old. It was just in June, when I had realised that she was experiencing a series if continuous fevers that wouldn't break and she was experiencing weakness in her limbs.

I immediately had made contact with Dr Nilendra Chetty - Specialist Paedrtrician at Life Chatsmed Hospital in Chatsworth, who had admitted her immediately.

At first glance, he knew it was warning bells for leukaemia. Upon doing a series of tests, it was noted that all her blood counts were abnormal.

Dr Chetty immediately had referred Lameez to Dr M Vaithilingam, who confirmed the diagnosis as Acute Myloid Leukaemia this was on the 1st July 2013.

It is the worst and rarest form of leukaemia amongst children, especially a baby who is only two years old. She has been hospitalised at Parklands hospital since then and this has now become her second home.

Lameez was only given a 40 to 70 percent chance of survival due to the cancers aggressive nature. Dr Vaithilingam started immediately with chemotherapy, which did not help and tried again and still did not help.

This was indeed a turning point in our lives as we did not know what else to do. We knew that we needed to draw our strengths from GOD, as Lameez was in his divine hands. Prayer was the only key to help my innocent baby, who practically has no clue what was happening to her.

She had a series of bone marrow aspirations and surgeries, inserting hickman lines as well as the port. It was then suggested that the only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant. And to find a perfect match, is like finding a rare diamond.

God has been so good to us, in the sense that both her sisters were tested. And the most amazing results have proven that they both are perfect matches for their little baby sister.

Lameez is currently on the most aggressive type of chemotherapy and hopefully it will cause her to go into remission, paving a way to have the transplant at Groote Schurre Hospital in Cape Town. This type of procedure amounts to millions of Rands. Medical aide only covers a portion. So therefore THE LAMEEZ FOUNDATION account held at ABSA Bank has been set up for all donationshelping Lameez have a new lease on Life.
