Every so often a bakkie comes along that seems quietly confident about itself. This new limited-edition Ranger XLT is one of those.
Ford has introduced a special Ranger XLT finished in an all-new colour called Chill Grey. It is exclusive to this model and not available on any other Ranger derivative in South Africa. Only 250 units will be built, which immediately puts it in the category of vehicles you either act on now or hear about later from someone else who did.
The appeal goes beyond the paint. Ford has bundled the Chill Grey edition with Upgrade Pack 6, priced at R58 600 including VAT, adding meaningful enhancements without losing sight of what makes the XLT such a solid all-rounder.
On the outside, the Ranger gains a sports bar, black side mirrors and door handles, and 17-inch alloy sport wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres. The stance is purposeful without trying too hard, and underbody protection reminds you that this is still a Ranger first and foremost, not a fashion accessory.
Inside, the cabin receives a noticeable lift. Leather seats, a leather steering wheel and leather gear knob bring a more premium feel, while wireless charging adds everyday convenience. Accessory switches are also fitted, making it easier to tailor the vehicle for work, leisure or both.
Safety remains a strong focus. The limited-edition XLT comes standard with Collision Mitigation, Post Impact Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring. These systems are designed to quietly support the driver rather than shout about their presence.
The new Chill Grey finish is also a reflection of Ford's ongoing investment in local manufacturing quality. Recent upgrades to the Paint Shop have improved consistency and finish durability, ensuring that the colour looks as good in a few years as it does on the showroom floor.
With its unique colour, enhanced specification and strictly limited production run, this Ranger XLT stands out as something a little more considered than the usual special edition.
For those interested, CMH Ford Ballito is probably taking orders now. Call and ask for MK on 087 723 9278 to secure one of the 250 before they disappear into driveways across the country.
