Muscular, Efficient Renault Stepway

Muscular, Efficient Renault Stepway

Date: 2012-04-25
The Renault Stepway is powered by a 1 598 cc four-cylinder engine renowned for its torquey nature. It is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox with ratios to make the most of the power and torque on offer. Drive is to the front wheels.

The eight-valve unit produces a peak power output of 64 kW at 5 500 r/min, coupled to maximum torque of 128 Nm at 3 000 r/min. As a result, the Stepway accelerates from rest to 100 km/h in a 11,5 seconds, with an accompanying top speed of 175 km/h.

The power unit also scores high marks in fuel economy and efficiency terms. The combined-cycle fuel consumption figure comes to 7,2 l/100 km, while the CO2 emissions rating is 183 g/km.

Like its Sandero siblings, the Stepway also sets high active and passive safety standards. The efficient braking system links vented front discs to self-adjusting rear drums, controlled by the latest Bosch 8.0 ABS anti-lock braking system.

The system incorporates electronic brake force distribution (EBD), and emergency brake assist (EBA).

In terms of passive safety, the Stepway is fitted with a collapsible steering column, dual front airbags, inertia reel seatbelts, and front and rear head restraints.

The Stepway is fitted with an engine immobiliser and the innovative Renault Anti-Intrusion Device (RAID).
