South Africa shines in China

South Africa shines in China

Date: 2014-01-24
South Africa as a travel destination is becoming increasingly important to the Chinese market with South African Tourism's China office receiving an award for its work on the country.

South African Tourism's Country Manager for China, Bradley Brouwer, must be commended on his hard work and perseverance in one of the fastest growing economies globally to keep South Africa top-of-mind for travellers.

David Frost, CEO of the Southern African Tourism Services Association (SATSA) says that tour operators that are assisting the Chinese market with tours to South Africa have played an important role in growing the number of arrivals from these markets and the awareness of South Africa as a destination for Chinese travellers.

The award received, Best Overseas Travel Destination Award 2013 from media agency xinhuanet.com, is the latest in a string of awards received by South African Tourism in China over the past year.

"According to arrivals statistics, the number of Chinese travellers increased almost 20% between the January to August period in 2013 in comparison to the previous year. This growth shows that South Africa is winning as a destination in a market that is very important right now," says Frost.

Frost furthers that the time is right for tour operators and South African Tourism to work even closer together to mine the potential of the Chinese travel market. "We need to build on this success as the tourism industry and refine our offering to a market that has quite specific preferences. By using research from South African Tourism, as well as working with tour operators that have experience in dealing with the Chinese market, we could certainly provide an unbeatable travel offering to the Chinese market."
