One-off Dance double-bill by French Contemporary Dancer: Fabrice Lambert Gravité/ D'Eux #2

One-off Dance double-bill by French Contemporary Dancer: Fabrice Lambert Gravité/ D'Eux #2

Date: 2016-05-06
The French Institute of South Africa and the Alliance Française of Durban are delighted to jointly present Fabrice Lambert, an internationally-acclaimed eclectic French artist who combines dance, movement, choreography, and installation, who will touring in Durban as part of his African tour where he will perform his two pieces Gravité and D'Eux #2 as a double-bill at the Courtyard Theatre at DUT for one performance only, on Saturday May 7 at 7pm.

Lambert is known as a dance-maker whose edgy work is deeply rooted in the technical age. He has an interest in the sciences and plays around with such unusual dance themes as speed, the integral accident or even the idea of a body without organs! He explores the ideas that concepts give the body an imagination which, on stage, takes the concrete form of experiences of perception where thought, energy and matter could be considered as one and the same.

After graduating from the National Centre of Contemporary Dance in Angers, Fabrice Lambert worked as a dancer for many great contemporary choreographers including Carolyn Carlson, Catherine Diverres, Francois Verret and Rachid Ouramdane, before founding the Experience Harmaat – which brings together artists, engineers, videographers and visual artists often with a strong focus on science – which be they physical, human or social, and are often at the heart of his research.

Gravité is both an installation and choreography. “A body leans on a stretch of smooth water through which light and sound constantly progress, revealing the slightest movements on the water. United by these movements, body and water become one entity; they are fused into one graphic image,” explains Lambert.

"With D'Eux #2 I continue my work on abstraction and context. This piece considers my body as material and colour; working on tonal, my dance, crossed by gravity, plays with our perceptions, and brings back, from my abstract body, the energies that put in motion," he considers.

Lambert will also be conducting a special three hour intensive workshop / master-class using as a starting point the piece Gravité on Monday 9 May to which the dance students of both DUT and UKZN have been invited.

Gravité (performed inside the theatre) and D'Eux #2 (performed outside in the theatre garden) Courtyard Theatre, DUT Saturday 7 May 2016 at 7pm Tickets: R60 public / R40 members of Aliance Francaise Book at Alliance Francaise or come to the door.
