The Bead Coalition's Cause Bracelets Change Lives

The Bead Coalition's Cause Bracelets Change Lives

Date: 2013-10-18
South Africa's best-selling, beaded RHINO FORCE bracelets have donated over R4.6 million for rhino conservation and continue to raise funds, change lives and create employment for previously disadvantaged female beading communities in South Africa. The entrepreneurial, cause-related bracelet company, The Bead Coalition (TBC) is set to once again reach unprecedented success with sales of their extended range of ten beautiful, cause-related beaded bracelets. Profits are donated to selected beneficiaries.

The Bead Coalition has created a sustainable, tangible fundraising mechanism that allows supporters to get behind their chosen causes with a simple, beaded bracelet. "We are a South African company that proudly and passionately supports local employment and community upliftment by delivering a product that raises funds and awareness for specific causes. Our bracelets are beaded by previously disadvantaged and unemployed women in rural South Africa and sold into retail, corporate and onto e-commerce platforms", says Joanne Lapin Thorpe, CEO.

TBC's biggest beading community is located in the Marico region of Madikwe, North West Province. The Madikwe Rural Development Programme (MRDP) was founded in 1988. This programme provides facilities to beaders from nearby communities. Raw materials are provided to bead thousands of bracelets within the 10 bracelet offerings currently in TBC's range, and further employment is created for quality control, packaging and administration processes.

Says Colin Cooper, Chairman of the MRDP, "The beaders form a true workers co-operative and decide their working hours, volumes of bracelets made daily, and whether to work in a group or solo. The beaders are so thankful to The Bead Co, as many lives in Marico have changed and many families now have a breadwinner. There is a great sense of satisfaction in our community and as word has spread, so has the demand for a beading job. Hundreds of women arrive at the MRDP each morning, hoping for a bracelet demand that will create further job opportunities".

Says Lapin Thorpe, "We urge all citizens of the world to support the causes they feel so strongly about with a symbolic, beaded, solidarity bracelet that makes our world a better place and changes lives. The Bead Coalition passionately drive a simple yet effective business model, of supporting the life of a cause as well as the cause of a life. Bracelets are available at participating retailers, for corporate sales via Amrod Corporate and online at https://www.thebeadco.co.za.
