Justin Foxton, founder of The Peace Agency has been nominated for the ANN7 South African of the Year (SATY) Awards.

Date: 2014-08-22
Justin Foxton is the founder of The Peace Agency, an umbrella NPO for five projects in Kwa-Zulu Natal that encourages South Africans to move from armchair critics to co-architects of a healed nation. Justin and his wife Cathy Foxton run The Peace Agency from their home in Umhlanga and the projects include; a media campaign called Stop Crime Say Hello, an information and counselling service called The Adoption Companion, a mentorship programme for vulnerable children called Bright Stars, a service to impoverished mothers called The Cookie Jar and The Baby House, a non-profit organisation that cares for abandoned or orphaned babies.

Justin has won Kwa-Zulu Natal LeadSA Hero last year and LeadSA Hero of the month of May this year. He is now in the running for the first ANN7 South African of the Year (SATY) Awards under the category of Spirit of Humanity Award.

Under his non-profit organisation, The Peace Agency, Justin is currently establishing another Baby House - which will bring the total number of Baby Houses to three. This new Baby House will be in Hammarsdale - a very poor rural area outside Pietermartizburg beset with social issues

"Many babies are abandoned or orphaned in this area. The facility will nurture and care for these babies in every way and ensure that they are adopted into loving, permanent families as soon as possible. The establishment of this facility will uplift the community at large by providing much-needed employment and a springboard for the introduction of our other programmes," says Justin.

The Baby House cares for abandoned or orphaned babies between the ages of 0 and 1 year in every way; feeding, clothing, testing, medicating and providing them with a loving home until they are placed with loving adoptive parents. It is registered as a place of safety with the Department of Social Development.

65To acknowledge his work in society, Justin has been invited to the ANN7 South African of the Year (SATY) Awards which will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, September 6.
