Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2014-01-17
Twenty fourteen has a totally cool ring to it. Another year, another adventure, yet another 365 days to add to our birth date. Time is rushing by at a glorious speed and each second counts more than the previous oneeach minute more precious, each golden hour priceless.

This year will be different thoughI can feel it in my little pinkythis year will be the year that will mean more than previous years. I do not know why but I can just feel it. Can you?

The last twenty-one days spent island hopping in the Seychelles has helped me build up the most phenomenal attitude towards living and I intend to apply this to my life and make it my own. Damn it!

In the last three weeks I have dined with individuals who hold the highest position of power in government and commence but are not stuck up or full of self importance - they are humble because they have nothing to prove.

I have made acquaintance with beautiful individuals who live in simple shacks yet are proud to invite you home and show you their collection of exotic coconut orchids - their ambitions stretching as far as the border of their gardens and the magnitude of orchid propagation.

My heart swells with intense gratitude. What a privilege to be invited into these strangers' lives and be shown such kindness and generosity.

Its hard to explain how removed I found myself from reality these past few months. I couldn't understand why the world was weighing so heavy on my shoulders. My patience had run out and my tolerance to bullshit had worn thin. I guess everyone around me was in the same boat, experiencing brain drain and exhaustion.

This visit to the islands has changed all that. Sitting sharing a pink Campari in an honesty bar, tucked secretly on an island in a Robinson Crusoe style pub, on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, turned my fatigue to effervescent excitement.

The clouds have lifted and all I can see is the crystal clear hue of the turquoise shimmer and my mind is elevated to the soft whisper of the rolling waves. My doubts about the future have been buried in the powdery coral sand somewhere on La Digue's Grande Anse and I am ready to fly, my masts are ready to sail me into the New Year, full of gratitude and determination to plough through the kak!

So here is to the New Yearto the new lifenew love and new beginnings! Here is to you my esteemed readers and valued advertisers, let us make twenty fourteen the year we unite and support each other through everything that this year will throw at us.

Allow me to tell your stories, share your memories and show off your achievements through the pages of The Bugle. I look forward to hearing from you. Writ to me at thebugle@mweb.co.za
