Engen Volkswagen Cup Racers Ready For Round Two

Engen Volkswagen Cup Racers Ready For Round Two

Date: 2014-03-28
THE Engen Volkswagen Cup championship moves to Killarney in Cape Town for round two of their national championship on Saturday, 29 March. Based on the battles that took place in round one, this will be a highly charged race day.

Seasoned Engen Volkswagen Cup campaigned Mathew Hodges (M3 - ITR Africa / 959 Panelbeaters / Dickron Motors) has moved into the Masters category this year - and promptly became the first Master to feature at the sharp end of the field. This creates an interesting dynamic as a continued performance of this caliber could see him become the first Master to claim the overall Engen Volkswagen Cup title.

Newcomer to the series, Sheldon van der Linde (16 - Ferodo Racing) had an excellent start to his season. First time out in the Engen Volkswagen Cup and he achieves a fast qualifying time to be entered into the Top Six draw for grid positions, he finishes both races on the podium and claims second overall for the day. This debut marks him as a serious contender this season and definitely one to watch.

Round two of the Super Series at Killarney will see the Engen Volkswagen Cup racers once again trading blows, smashing mirrors and racing door-to-door in some of the most nail-biting motorsport action to be found on the national circuit.

The question for the racers is what does the weather hold for them in Cape Town. An overcast day at Zwartkops turned into a very wet second race, adding another challenge for the competitors. Good weather in the Cape could see a different dynamic manifest as these racers tackle the change of taming the Engen Volkswagen Cup Polo Vivo.
