Basic Education Committee visits KZN schools

Basic Education Committee visits KZN schools

Date: 2013-01-23
The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education will visit schools in KwaZulu-Natal next week (21-24 January 2013) to assess their state of readiness for the 2013 academic year.

The Committee will focus on areas such as the state of the school environment; the supply and training of teachers; readiness to implement the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), particularly in the intermediate phase and Grade 11; the state of registration of learners, the delivery of textbooks, workbooks and stationery; and the availability of learner transport and school nutrition to qualifying learners.

The Committee will also seek to understand the challenges faced, contingency plans in place and possible assistance. The visits to these provinces will include a formal meeting with the Provincial Portfolio Committee on Education in the Legislatures, the Provincial Departments of Education, School Governing Bodies and Organised Labour.
