Life Empowerment For Learners

Life Empowerment For Learners

Date: 2016-12-16
In recent times the moral decline of teenagers has become a major cause for concern amongst parents, teachers and the community at large. Seeking to address this issue, TrinityHouse Palm Lakes High School recently called on Ballito-based church, Groundbreakers, to conduct a two-day life empowerment workshop for its leaners.

The workshop was held from the 5th to 6th of December. Its focus was to prepare high school learners to cope with various life challenges that confront teenagers in the world today.

Numerous sessions were presented over the two-day period. Sessions addressed topics relevant to teen challenges including how to set proper goals & standards for their lives, how establish accurate and wholesome relationships, how to handle sexual pressure, how to filter main stream media and how to identify one's gifts and competencies for career planning. Learners were given a broader perspective on the role and function they play in society and the contribution they can make to the future of South Africa and the world at large.

Groundbreakers is a prophetic church located on the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal. The church is registered as a non-government, community based organisation (NPO 146-780). The church has a strong leadership culture and a vision to bring moral regeneration to the region of Kwadukuza.

Heading up the team of facilitators from Groundbreakers was their senior pastor, Nel Sewraj. Pastor Nel Sewraj holds an Honours degree in Ethics.

He was accompanied by Michelle Sewraj, assistant pastor of Groundbreakers, and founder of the life empowerment NGO called NationBuilders. She holds a degree in Psychology and a postgraduate qualification in Education.

Sipho Zungu, the youth and worship leader of Groundbreakers also facilitated some sessions. Sipho is currently a studying South African Politics at UNISA.

Speaking on behalf of TrinityHouse Palm Lakes High School was Mrs Julie Arthur. She said: "This life skills workshop is very important to our children. The holidays and society itself offers many choices to our children; most of these choices are not of a wholesome nature. After attending this workshop, I firmly believe that our children are better equipped for whatever they may face. Thank you Pastor Nel and Groundbreakers."
