Dazzling Display At Ballito Street Heroes

Dazzling Display At Ballito Street Heroes

Date: 2014-09-19
Hundreds of car crazed fans flocked to the second edition of SMD Ballito Street Heroes, hosted by the KwaDukuza Municipality, over the weekend.

Dazzling displays from 37 well-tuned automobiles did not disappoint, as crowds were kept entertained throughout the two-day festival.

Car lovers enjoyed the Interactive drifting Zone and the Show and Shine contest on Sunday but it was the red-hot action on the Laguna Seca Circuit, which proved to be the highlight of the weekend.

South Coast based driver, Jade Gutzeit was crowned Ultimate Street Hero with his blistering record breaking Mitsubishi Evo. Gutziet beat Willie De Beer in a Porsche GT2 by almost three seconds. In doing so he wrestled the mantle away from his father, Dezzi, who finished in seventh place this year. "It was very cool battling my dad, it was good rivalry," Gutzeit said.

In addition the crowds were also thrilled on the track by the lightening fast Formula Renault car driven by Craig Shorter as well as the drifting stunt team from XS promotions. One of the highlights was the new addition this year of Corne Theron who thundered down the track in a full works BMW 1000 super bike. Corne beat Brian Kappa's record from last year.

Away from the track, a cocktail party and auction managed to raise R100 000 for the Ithemba Labasha Community Centre, based at Shaka's Head, Ballito. The auction itself raked in R60 000, while SMD director, Sean Duminy, contributed R40 000 from his own coffers.
