Designer Secrets for Small Spaces

Designer Secrets for Small Spaces

Date: 2013-11-01
From forgoing the coffee table to putting a sink outside the bathroom, here are some clever decorating ideas and tips for how to decorate a small space.

Choose a Light Palette
The colour white is fresh, clean and opens up any small space. It is a great colour to dress up when you get tired of the white 'zone'.

Place a Table Lamp on the Kitchen Counter
Having a lamp on the counter makes the room more intimate and when you live in a house that is small, you want the kitchen to be more than just utilitarian.

Think Multipurpose
Think how to utilise every piece in your small interior to serve as - for instance a table functions as an entry centre table, a serving table, a breakfast table, and, with a linen cloth, a formal dining table.

Forgo the Coffee Table
Use small side tables instead of big coffee tables, which eat up a room, being able to move things around makes you feel less beholden and cramped

Extend Rooms Outside
The wood floors in the kitchen extend out to a coordinated deck through glass shower doors, creating the illusion of a much bigger space. Your sight line goes to the windows and the space outside, which makes the room seem much larger.

Get Creative with Storage
To keep order in his small apartment, place baskets under the bed for all your DIY tools.

Try a Sink Outside the Bathroom
When you are sharing a small space with another person it is great to place a sink in your bedroom so you do not have to wait to wash your face in the morning.

Happy Decorating!
