Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

Feeling slightly down and under the weather, the grim grey clouds did not help and as the day lit up my mood failed to improve. Shucks, its no fun feeling blue?

Look I am not going to deny it; I have a slight personal dilemma. For some it would seem like a small detail, however for me, I have sleepless nights about it. You see I have been invited to some very important events at this year's Durban July. I excitedly accepted the invitations but have no dress, no shoes, and no hat, not even a fascinator. I have left it too late and now I am hoping for a pumpkin to arrive and produce magic. If that does not happen, a raid of my best friend's closet will have to do.

Oh what happened to the good old days when I was planning big events for months? Being careful not to pick something that someone else was wearing, wanting to be creative as well as unique in how I presented myself to the world. Those days are gone but that does not mean that I will not try to look smashing.

I know that I am not the only one in this position. I just got off the phone with my good friend Annie, she is traveling from Johannesburg and is hoping to get something to wear in Durban. Phew, thank you Annie, I don't have to worry any more, Annie and I will go fashion shopping on Friday, hopefully by then the only fashion left will be all the items that no one else wanted. And if my Durban July outfit still does not materialise, a raid of my best friend's closet it will be.

So this year's theme for the Durban July, "Posh, oh my Gosh", is a cute play on words but trust me there is nothing sweet about trying to pull off the POSH look. This year it is all about elegance, understated glamour and uber funky style.

Not easy to just whip something out of the cupboard and throw it on. At this year's Durban July races you have to take the time and create magic, something out of a Cinderella story, but where do I find the fairy godmother to wave her magic wand and turn me into a princess?

With my head in my hands, I sit and ponder. I guess I am waiting for my Cinderella moment. If you are planning your special July event, I hope you are having more fun than me. I guess the important thing is to keep in mind that you are going out to have fun and in order to have fun you have to be happy, comfortable and warm. Oh I am feeling better already. See you at the races.
