What's the issue?

What's the issue?

Date: 2014-03-07
Oscar performances and Oscar awards seem to be titillating the world while some really serious issues are slipping past our remote controls.

Lets take the Crimean War for instance. It raged between France, Britain, the Ottaman Empire and Sardinia between 1853 and 1856. Now the trouble in Ukraine might be vastly removed from the religious rights of the Crimean war, but it was really al about money. And there lies the similarities; it is all about the money.  Some think that the US and the EU are wrestling with Russia for influence in the region, which controls a whole lot of gas pipelines essential to Europe's survival of the cold winter months. Some of my right wing friends say it is blatant manipulation and a pathetic attempt by the West to get one up on Russia, but that close to Moscow would be crazy.

Putin calmly lets everybody know that military intervention is a last resort, but one that he will reserve the right to use should he feel the need. The US has cancelled bilateral trade talks and joint military exercises over the spat, a move that seems to be viewed by Putin as "counterproductive". I would have said childish if I was him, fortunately I am not. Putin said "When I ask them 'Do you believe you do everything legitimately,' they say 'Yes.' And I have to remind them about the US actions in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, where they acted either without any UN Security Council mandate or through perverting a mandate, as was the case in Libya," and continued "Our partners, especially in the United States, always clearly and formulate for themselves their geopolitical and national interests, pursue them relentlessly and then drag the rest of the world in, using the principle 'You are either with us or against us'. And harass those refuse to be dragged in."

One thing Obommer should take out of what happened in Egypt is that the masses or a group of them might be able to remove a political party that is not co-operating with you, but that does not mean that they will be able to rebuild a state that can. I'm with Putin on this one.

Then there is the fantastic news that the DA is taking the eToll disaster to court, looking to find unconstitutional elements to the deal and hoping to uncover any illegal activity financial or otherwise. I believe that this is truly in the interests of the people, but the timing might just be in the interests of the Madam. Now that she has fallen fowl of the Twitter trap, Helen proved that the race card has more than one side.

Then there is the serious rocket testing North Koreans firing at will during the joint US and South Korean military exercises. Wait a minute, did I just say the US again, military issues again, these guys just can't get enough of saving the world from ourselves.

So glad our president is a peace loving guy.
