There is something very satisfying in the low tone rumble of a diesel engine, especially today's version of diesel engines with their refined purr. And when that rumble turns into a growl, the Isuzu D-TEC 4X4 really comes into its own realm of performance.
I test drove both the manual and the automatic derivatives of the Isuzu KB 300 D-Tec double cabs and where they have not made too many changes to the exterior look of the vehicle, they have also maintained the excellent ride quality that Isuzu is so well known for.
At high speeds on the freeway, the Isuzu double cab showed very little to almost no body roll even with a hefty north easterly wind at 20 knotts, heading home into the wind was stable and very comfortable.
With the automatic derivative I was impressed with the amount of throttle control the Isuzu had. I could inch forward or backwards in centimetres even with a load and on an incline. The automatic transmission was almost clairvoyant in its gear selection, especially in very soft sand.
It is no wonder the South African motoring public have take so well to the Isuzu, an unassuming interior hides the ostentatious capabilities this double cab offers.
Make your way to an Isuzu dealer and take a load off your work pile and put it onto the Isuzu.
