Dinner with Benny
The 37-year-old Benny 'Buddy' Masekwameng hosted a dinner evening last Wednesday night at Suncoast Towers to talk about the new approach to dining at Tsogo Sun restaurants countrywide.
The new look and feel menu is introducing fresh and local produce and state of the art presentation as seen on Masterchef. Benny said he loves what he does, even though cooking is regarded as a preserve for women in traditional African society.
Head Chef for Suncoast Towers Xanthos Giannakopoulos started the evening with amuse bouch, tiny titbit, Smoked kaleidoscope of Marlin, Sword and Tuna, hollandaise, Poached Asparagus with parmesan hollandaise sauce, which was served at arrival. It was a good indication of the chef's approach to cooking and the restaurant's attention to your appetite.
Xanthos, who is a type 1 diabetic, introduced each mouth-watering dish, explaining, the processes and the principles behind each dish.
The starter was a succulent Seafood Treasure, of Seared Scallop, Poached Prawn Citrus glazed Salmon, KZN Mussel, tomato, cucumber, lemon Vinaigrette and Shellfish Velloutte. Some opted for the vegetarian option of grilled Mediterranean vegetable with a subtle lemon vinaigrette.
The main dish was a masterpiece of Char grilled sword fish, and Sea Bass with Asian baby greens, crispy pommes frites with soyabeaure blanch and ginger preserve or Beef Fillet or Chicken Roulade. The vegetarians feasted on a crispy wrap of stir fried vegetables on a bed of fresh asparagus with a sweet and sour sauce. The dessert was an extraordinary buffet selection of Midland cheeses, tiramisu, espresso brule, raw honey, mountains of fresh fruit and a selection of in-house pastries.
Everything tasted of sheer decadence and even though it looked decadent and highly caloric, each dish presented was a true representation of the way in which Head Chef Xanthos Giannakopoulos wishes to wow his diners.
