Umhlanga's Wave Wizards surf club will be hosting the competition, to take place on December 13 and 14, in conjunction with KZN Central Surfing.
The event caters for everyone from the serious pro to the complete novice (from the age of five) and the weekend warriors looking for some fun. There will be both short and long board divisions and the contest will end in a retro-style 70's tag team competition where a maximum of five teams will compete on old surfboards for a cash prize of R1250.
Other prizes on offer include R10 000 cash from Lizzard, R5 000 from Hurricane surf, R5 000 from Just Juice, R2 000 from Bells and R1 000 cash from Zigzag surf magazine.
While the surfing is taking place on the water the Summer Festival's Just Juice programme will keep the action going on the beach, making sure that everyone is entertained. The activities comprise of a host of great free entertainment such as volleyball, beach olympics, dancing, Miss/Mr Umhlanga, promenade walks, soccer, face painting, tug-of-war and more.
Other highlights include the Jockey trail run/walk (5km, 12km or 18km), the Ocean Heroes surf ironman series and the harmonious sounds of Shelly McClain and her choir at the carols by candlelight.
