Help Rotary with Amaoti organic farm project
The Rotary Club of Umhlanga needs R155000.00 for the Amaoti Farm project and want everyone to help them achieve their goal. The club has partnered with top international saxophonist Andrew Young, to bring you a night that will change Amoati forever. The club is a hosting a British themed night of dinner and unforgettable music at the Hellenic Hall in Durban North on 13 February 2015 at 7pm.
Andrew has always loved South Africa and had this to say about the project, "I am delighted to once again be working closely together with Rotary in KZN. It is fantastic to be given the opportunity to perform for Rotary knowing what we do will enhance the lives of others in a place that is dear to my heart. Knowing the effort that individual Rotarians have made to bring this evening to fruition I fully support their commitment with their ongoing charitable projects."
The Amaoti Farm project is a co-operative/community organic farming project involving the presently unemployed and impoverished members of the local community in a semi-rural area of Verulam, an outlying township in Durban.
The objective is to train, mentor, and educate presently unemployed members of the local community to make them self-supporting and self-sustaining by developing small organic vegetable farming co-operatives on land owned and designated for that use by the eThekwini Metro.
The overall project aims to provide water for irrigation for the farmers over a site area of 500,000 (five hundred thousand square meters). The overall master plan for the project will comprise 25 farming co-operatives each occupying 20,000 square meters of land. The first phase of the project comprises taking 160,000 square meters of virgin land divided into 8 plots of 20000 square meters, each to be farmed by groups of 6 to 8 emerging farmers working within a co-operative structure. Adequate provision of water in the harsh conditions of Africa is essential to ensure the success of this project.
All this world needs is a little Love and that is what Andrew promises with his tribute to the legendary music of the Beatles. For tickets or any further information contact Anna on 0832700191.
