Balgowan Brewery Launch

Balgowan Brewery Launch

Date: 2016-08-12
A welcome addition to the Midlands experience will be the launch of Balgowan Brewery on Saturday 13 August: a one-day festival in the "Mill Session" series offering great live music, fabulous craft beer, and family fun.

The launch open-day will be a celebration of this exciting new brewery in the KZN Midlands from 11am until 6pm; accompanied by live music from three acts: The Silver Band, Salty Dog and Duncan Park. The live music line up will segue to discs with renowned radio DJ Elvis

Balgowan Brewery is situated at Midlands Forest Lodge, halfway between Nottingham Road and Howick.

Balgowan Brewery is a company registered by two young, enthusiastic entrepreneurs who are products of Rhodes University. Cindy Slater obtained her PhD in Biochemistry in 2015. Stefan Just studied Applied Mathematics and Physics with Electronics and recently submitted his thesis for his MSc in Electronics. After leaving Rhodes they decided to settle on the Midlands Meander and concentrate full time on their brews and forming the Balgowan Brewery on the beautiful property of Midlands Forest Lodge.

After months of experimentation, Just and Slater have scaled up and perfected their brew process with recipes for several types of beers. Balgowan Brewery aims at creating both quality and authentic tasting beers using local as well as imported ingredients.

The launch will take the form of a Mill Session - a series of music-themed events which Midlands cornerstones Di and Terry Acres have been running mostly from their Caversham Mill for the past five years. The 13 August event will feature The Silver Band which has been formed by some of the country's finest musicians and entertainers: Alistair Coakley.
