National Marine Week In partnership with KwaDukuza Municipality at Umfolozi TVET College

KZN Sharks Board report hosted National Marine Week in partnership with KwaDukuza Municipality at Umfolozi TVET College to raise awareness on the effects f dumping and environmental pollution which affecting our marine environment. National Marine week event took place on the 7th of October 2021 at KwaDukaza, Umfolozi TVET College. The event was hosted by KwaDukuza Municipality in partnership with KZN Sharks Board. The purpose of the event was to create awareness on the marine and coastal environment, the promotion of sustainable use and conservation of the resource for the benefit of all both present and future generations.

KwaZulu Natal Sharks Board presented about what they do to create awareness on the marine and coastal environment, the promotion of sustainable use and conservation of the resource for the benefit of all both present and future generations and also opportunities on careers such as Marine Biology and Nature Conservation to TVET students, as the purpose of raising awareness for conservation of the ocean, and also educating them about relevant issues related to the Ocean Economy and other benefits.

Stakeholders that participated in the National Marine week event was Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Beach life saving guide, KwaDuku za Municipality and KwaZulu Natal Sharks Board. KZNSB also had an opportunity to demonstrate Shark Dissection where they educate the impact of dumping waste from our communities that ended up to the ocean where it affects the marine life especially sharks and other species due to the pollution caused by humans.
