Flames And Dames 2015 For Women's Day

Flames And Dames 2015 For Women's Day

Date: 2015-08-07
A fun Women's Day fundraising challenge and braai-off will set Durban's Morning Trade alight on Sunday August 9 when "Flames and Dames 2015" gets cooking.

Hosted by Raise Your Voice Productions, the annual cook-off, which raises money for charities that support women and young girls, is a stereotype-shattering event which brings people together around the braai.

Traditionally the domain of men, this time it's the fairer sex who take control of the embers and tongs. Men, of course, are allowed but they need to dress the part and this year you can expect some real fun and games from some very unlikely dames.

Last year's "Flames and Dames" was a roaring success which saw festive braai fanatics raise R18 500 for the Open Door Crisis Centre in Pinetown.

This year they will be turning up the heat by adding Zimele Women's Organisation and Kerr House to the beneficiary list.

Zimele means "stand on your own feet" in isiZulu and the organisation has spearheaded social development and women's empowerment projects in remote and impoverished areas throughout KZN.

Kerr House is a women's refuge which provides shelter for women and children in crisis. It provides accommodation and meals for up to 17 mothers and children, as well as counselling and rehabilitation plans.

The Open Door Crisis Centre is dedicated to helping victims of abuse, violence, those in conflict or dealing with addiction, HIV/Aids, unwanted pregnancies - or anyone who has been traumatised in any way.

"Flames and Dames" runs from 1pm to 6pm on August 9 at 5 Station Drive, which is off Umgeni Road, Durban.

You are invited to come along and share in the outrageous fun as celebrity and braai fanatics teams dish up their versions of the great South African braai, along with crazy outfits, OTT décor and a few surprises. Food, beverages and good times will be available.

The food promises to deliver with real taste, but the same cannot be said for all the participants, who are guaranteed to raise a few eyebrows along with much-needed funds. Should you wish to register a team or support the campaign, please email karen@raiseyourvoice.co.za , call 082 750 8425 or see Facebook for more information.
