Julia Hammond is not new to Ballito, having lived here twelve years ago she recently returned on a soul searching journey to feed her primary passion - the passion for her art.
Having spent the last nine years in Hartbeespoort, Julia felt that her artistic flare was being suppressed; even though she was successful at the career she chose as a freelance Graphic designer, she needed a change. The sight of her four walls was closing in on her.
"Now that I am back in Ballito, every morning I am up early to watch the sunrise over the sea and am blessed and inspired by the most amazing colours that changes constantly." She tells The Bugle.
Julia has always been interested in art and after watching a movie about the life of Georgia O'Keeffe she knew that painting flowers and landscapes is exactly what she wanted to do.
" I love painting trees, flowers and nature, from mountains to the sea scenes." Says Julia; "I've taken painting classes from Pieter Mullard who inspired me even further."
Pieter Mullard is a renowned South African artist who had the privilege to paint and study with brilliant artists like Adriaan Boshoff, Tinus and Gabriel de Jongh, Pierneef and Gregoire Boonzaier.
Julia has just returned from touring the South African coastline where she was utterly stimulated. Seeing nature up close represented an amazing experience for her, which she plans to share with the north coast community.
There are some amazing plans on the cards for Julia. "My work has changed tremendously. I would like to share my passion with people." Said Julia, "I want people to experience our beautiful country through my paintings."
Julia is planning her first exhibition in Ballito soon, so watch this space.
"When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment."
