Port Of Durban Host Massachusetts Cadets

Port Of Durban Host Massachusetts Cadets

Date: 2019-02-08

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) hosted 15 cadets from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at the Port of Durban on Wednesday, 30 January 2019. The cadets visited South Africa through their Annual Cultural Exchange Programme, in partnership with eThekwini Maritime Cluster (EMC), which ran from 10 - 30 January 2019.

The objective of the programme was to enhance mutual understanding among the people of South Africa and the United States of America. It was structured to maximise exposure of the cadets to South Africa through knowledge sharing. The cadets travelled to local schools in Durban and engaged with learners, especially those that have taken up Maritime Studies as a subject, and gave them an insight on the United States maritime industry.

The cadets were accompanied by Dr PF Ndlovu, a professor from the International Maritime Business (IMB). At the Port of Durban, the cadets were welcomed by Port Planner, Khulekani Xaba who presented the Durban Port Overview which was followed by a water side tour of the port.
