Fishing Hooks On Beaches Don't Work!

If you own a dog or if you're a parent with inquisitive toddlers, and you take them to the beach for a romp, this story may resonate with you. Talk to any vet and emergency centre in a hospital about the number of cases of dogs and people coming in with hook related problems -either swallowed, caught in the foot or finger and you'll be amazed. Literally every day there's a case of a swallowed hook or one caught in the skin. If you're a fishermen, please take the time to read this poignant appeal from a pooch, little Gracie.
Dear Mr. Fisherman,
You went fishing the other day and didn't bother to take your hooks and line with you after you were done. I can only imagine you did this by mistake as to why would you leave something so dangerous for us to find.
My sense of smell is 10 000 times better than your human nose! Burying your disregarded dangerous waste in a thin layer of sand on the beach and thinking that is good enough is callous.
I have had to have my stomach cut open and spend two nights in the hospital because of your thoughtless actions. It was scary and noisy and many other sick doggies. I didn't understand.
Please please, Mr. Fisherman I am pleading with you take your waste with you so this doesn't happen to other dogs. To all my doggy friends please help me create awareness. This needs to STOP.
Thankfully I am expected to make a full recovery and being looked after by a very good team of doctors and nurses. Good night everypawdy, hopefully, I will be home soon with my pack and my teddy.

Commented her owner "Gracie swallowed a fishing hook with the line attached to it. We had her X rayed and discovered that she would need surgery. They opened her up and found that the hook had attached to the stomach but thankfully hook hadn't perforated the stomach lining. The thing that really annoys me is that this could have been prevented. If the fisherman had just cleaned up after himself and made sure he didn't leave anything behind this would never have happened. Thankfully, we are in the position to be able to afford the treatment needed, but many wouldn't have been able to. They might have had to watch their dog suffer needlessly or even may have to put their dog down."
The message is simple, be considerate. Clean up after yourself, throw away your waste (both fishermen and dog waste included) and let's enjoy our open spaces together. This kind of selfish behaviour has to stop!
