Glenashley Gives Back
Glenashley Preparatory School organised a Sandwich Drive in aid of local charities. All the children participated making the sandwiches and having huge fun. 14 830 sandwiches were made in the two days as grade per grade participated.
The charities that collected the sandwiches were, iCare, a rehab centre and drop-in centre in town and their two lower Illovo houses, they also shared with Addington Primary school and Greyville Primary School's feeding schemes. Streetwise is a charity that feeds between 500-700 boys at their various outlets. Girls and Boys Town inTongaat hosted a soccer tournament for under privileged children and so had sandwiches for the 160 odd players. On their way they also dropped off with two other Homes, Haven Of Rest, an old age home in Tongaat and Baitul Aman ,a children's home in La Mercy. The Salvation Army's Montpelier Branch and their beneficiaries also received sandwiches.
The event would not have been possible without the sponsorship of Glenore Spar and Checkers Virginia Circle. Glenore Tops, Glenashley Liquors, Peter's Liquors, Milkwood Liquors, Tops Virginia Circle and Liberty Liquors all donated the beer boxes used to house the sandwiches for delivery.
This was a fantastic community event and an amazing learning opportunity for the Glenashley Preparatory School children to learn first hand about compassion, helping others and caring for the less fortunate.
