Glenashley gets into the spirit of adventure

Glenashley gets into the spirit of adventure

Date: 2015-10-23
From 28 - 30 September, Glenashley's Grade 6 classes went on an excursion to the Spirit of Adventure Camp situated on the doorstep of Shongweni Dam. The area happens to be a large reserve for local wildlife. It proved the ideal place for the children to experience an environment outside of the classroom.

The weather played its part, with three beautiful days of sunny, and hot weather. This proved to be a hit as it allowed all of the outdoor activities to take place without intervention.

On the first day, the children were treated to orienteering around the reserve which involved some serious map-reading. Later the children enjoyed making a splash in Shongweni Dam and a team and raft building exercise. Luckily, none were shipwrecked during the activity.

The highlights were definitely the potjie Masterchef, the abseiling down a 25m dam wall and rock climbing. Overall, the children had a great time away from school where they could learn more about their environment and themselves through different activities and team building.
