What Type R You

What Type R You

It was a gorgeous day in cape Town, the Kilarney Race Track was hot under the morning sun and it was being challenged by the even hotter new Honda Civic Type-R.

This is a racing car for the road, as Honda put it, and they know what they are talking about. Four point seven three million cars, seventeen million motorcycles and the top selling SUV in the world, the Honda CRV, and you can be sure that the new Civic Type-R is not for the feint hearted.

Accelerating out of the pit lane I could feel the familiar adrenal rush caused by the amazing two-litre VTEC forced-induction Turbo engine. As I flew down the straight at over 200 kilometres per hour, I remembered that the presentation included the fact that the Honda Civic Type R had recently set a new record for the fastest lap at the Nurburgring for a front wheel drive vehicle. 7:50:36.

"The all-new Honda Civic Type R is the most extreme and highest performing Type R ever built, and sets new standards in the fiercely contested high-performance front-wheel drive hatchback segment," the words of the Director of Operations at Honda Motor South Africa, Graham Eagle, echoed in the back of my mind.

The Brembro brakes performed remarkably well and I was just blown away by this car.
