Team Ford Racing Out To Impress KZN Crowd
The event marks Team Ford Racing's first appearance in KwaZulu Natal with the team eager to impress the passionate KZN motoring fans, as they strive to take race honours in the Class T Bridgestone Production Car Championship.
The event will take place on a 2.1km street circuit running adjacent to the Moses Mabhida Stadium and will require an entirely different race strategy to that which earned the team the 2011 Championship title.
"Total, unfaltering concentration is the key to racing on a street circuit. There is no room for error as there are no run-off areas to save you. One nudge on a wall or barrier will severely damage the car," commented Team Ford Racing's Gary Formato. "That being said, I relish the challenge."
Ballito based teammate, Shaun Duminy is ecstatic about the prospect of racing in front of his home crowd. "I know it is going to be challenging, but I firmly believe that the Castrol Ford Focus STs are up to it. I think that handling is going to prove more important than outright power on this occasion," he said.
The team has spent many hours working on the handling and set-up aspects of the cars, basing themselves with Jason Evans at 888 Performance in Durban North leading up to the event.
Gary Formato currently lies second in the championship standings, with Shaun Duminy in third.
In addition to the Class T Bridgestone Production Car action there will be plenty on offer throughout the weekend with the Stig completing a series of power laps, a celebrity 1/4 mile challenge, a supercar grudge match, an F1 parade and of course the main attraction the live show, featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
Team Ford Racing will be at Ballito Auto on Wednesday the 13th of June from 6pm to meet and greet any interested fans. You will have a chance to speak to Shaun Duminy or Gary Formato and other members of the team. Find them at Ballito Auto, 6 Moffat Drive, Ballito or call in on 032 946 5600.
