One of my favourite sayings of late is, "Want to know how to make a small fortune in Ballito "
"Start with a large fortune."
Moving to a small town can be a challenge, we all have some kind of expectations, I mean, how difficult can it be to make ends meet in a village
Well its pretty hard I've been told, especially of late, as between 60 and 70 families are moving to our little growing metropolis each month and each one of those families has to make ends meet and there are not that many options to earn an honest living here. I guess that is why there are so many crooks in our community.
My recent interview with property mogul Horst Keil brought home many realisations, while our economy continues to suffer we are plodding on, making it happen even though it seems we never had it this bad. However on close reflection, we had it a lot worse in 2008 when the banks said; "Enough!" and we all had to look elsewhere to make a living.
Talking to Horst reminded me how important it was to save money and invest in property. My father encouraged me to buy property and now twenty years later this property is paying for itself and assisting me to make ends meet. Horst says that you cannot predict the future and that you can do nothing about the past, the only thing that is certain is right here, right now.
This weekend I met an interesting man from Zimbabwe. He seemed to be rolling in cash, his friends bragged about his wealth and I had no reason not to believe them. He told me that media did not want to report about the good that was happening in Zimbabwe and that news was twisted and distorted to make his country appear destitute.
I asked him what he loved most about living in Zimbabwe, he responded, "Lack of violent crime." He said that murders and killings are unheard of in Zimbabwe, "Zimbabweans are a non violent nation. Yes they will come and rob your house but the won't kill you."
He also told me that South Africa is heading in Zimbabwe's direction and all those who refuse to adapt to the change of the times will not be able to survive in the new South Africa.
All over the globe economies are shrinking, unemployment is on the rise and companies are downgrading. We have no choice but to adjust to the new world order and make a plan for our future or try to look for opportunities somewhere else in the world.
Lets look to the future with some magic sparkle dust and imagine a better world where we all thrive and prosper.
