KwaDukuza Mayor Welcomes Recent Drug Busts

KwaDukuza Mayor Welcomes Recent Drug Busts

Date: 2013-11-15
KwaDukuza Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu has welcomed four critical arrests made by the KwaDukuza Crime Prevention unit.

Two men and one woman were arrested on Friday following a special Stop and Search operation that was conducted by the KwaDukuza Municipality's Crime Prevention Unit.

The unit embarked on a joint crime operation that was conducted in conjunction with the KwaDukuza SAPS Cluster, KwaDukuza Correctional Services and the Department of Home Affairs in the KwaDukuza Central Business District (CBD).

A female suspect was found with 156 unclassified DVD's. On a separate incident, a man was found with a total of 350 straws of Whoonga, the street value is estimated to be worth more than R10000. The third suspect was found in possession of 445 grams of compressed Dagga.

On Friday night, the unit made a swift reaction following a tip-off, which led to the arrest of the fourth suspect. A New-Guilderland man was busted. He was found in the possession of more than 5Kg of compressed dagga. The street value of the drugs are estimated to be over R30000.

Mthembu has welcomed the breakthrough and has warned drug pushers that they will be arrested and harsh sentences will be meted out by the justice system.

'I commend the agencies that were behind the operation. This should set an example that lawlessness will never be tolerated in KwaDukuza. I have said this time and again that those who continue to push illegal substances and material will face the full might of the law,' said Mthembu.

He further said that these operations must continue, and he is confident that further arrests are yet to be made.
