Date: 2026-08-28
After two sell out concerts earlier this month, The Durban City Orchestra presents their final concert in their current season of From Stage to Screen 2, on Sunday 30 August at St Thomas Church in Musgrave at 3pm, with a second programme of carefully curated themes from much loved stage and screen productions.
From Stage to Screen 2 follows on from their hugely successful initial homage concert series of music from film and musical theatre staged in March and April.
Concerts in Durban North and Kloof were warmly received by capacity audiences offering rave reviews and great feedback, giving it a 4.9 out of 5 on the Quicket post-performance review page - "I don't think there could be any improvement - it was wonderful, when is Part 3 coming?"; and "A wonderful afternoon of music and fun. We need more like this. It was well supported by an appreciative audience. Particularly happy with the affordability of the tickets"
The orchestra, one of the longest running orchestras in the country, has a complement of approximately 35 active members who get together weekly. The orchestra includes two accomplished professional musicians in Charl van der Merwe as Resident Conductor and Jitske Brien as Concert Master.
Among the pieces on the programme include: Disney at the Movies; Feather Theme from Forrest Gump; theme from Harry Potter; Hook; How to Train your Dragon; Jurassic Park; Lord of the Rings; Phantom of the Opera; Pirates of the Caribbean and Superman.
Sponsored by Mzansi Philharmonic, the final performance is on Sunday 30 August at 3pm at St Thomas Church, Musgrave Road. Offroad and guarded road parking available. Denis Hurley Centre Street Lit books will be in attendance. Tickets through Quicket and at the door.
