Sanlam Cancer Challenge

Sanlam Cancer Challenge

Date: 2014-02-07
This March the Sanlam Cancer Challenge tees off its 22nd year as South Africa's biggest charitable sporting event with a place in the South African Golf Hall of Fame, and the support of Ernie Els and thousands of golfers around the country.

Over 36 000 golfers took to the fairways at clubs around South Africa in 2013 to help raise a record R3.3-million for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). This contributes half the amount needed for annual research into cancer and possible cures.

Registrations are now open at https://www.sanlamcancerchallenge.co.za for the 2014 series, which will begin in March with roughly 800 club competitions followed by regional competitions to determine the 100 golfers who will qualify for the finals at the Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Course at Sun City from 20-21 October.

"We were blown away by the support we received in the 2013 series and the money we were able to raise for CANSA. The success of this series and its effectiveness in the fight against cancer relies on every single golfer in South Africa to play his or her part, from our patron Ernie Els to the club golfer. And we appreciate every bit of support," said Sanlam Sponsorship Manager, Gary van Loggerenberg.

With over 100 000 South Africans diagnosed with cancer every year, South African golfers play a vital role through the Sanlam Cancer Challenge in raising enough funds for research and treatment.

Since its inception in 1993, the Sanlam Cancer Challenge has raised over R33-million for CANSA to assist with cancer control programmes focussing on prevention, care and support.
