My secret recipe for success
My secret recipe for success
Even in modern times women certainly don't have it easy in the kitchen, though in a predominantly male dominated industry, female chefs are still an exception and are moving to stake their claim as the best out there.
We are fortunate in Ballito to have a Chef at SUPERSPAR who is highly committed and passionate about FOOD. The Bugle wishes to celebrate a beautiful woman Nancy Pillay, who has worked hard to build the reputable name, provide excellent customer service and create delicious food that Superspar Ballito is known for.
Nancy who has lived all her life with her parents & brother in Shakaskraal, proudly shares her story. I have been visiting Spar since we moved to Ballito 8 years ago and have come to know many at Spar, but I am very proud to say that Nancy's name and number is listed on my Emergency Register in my kitchen. She is the one to call for quick luncheons, to order a platter, plan scheduled meals and for the best veg lasagne in Ballito.
Her humility is the most attractive of her qualities as she gleams when she says that, 'I love cooking and trying new recipes and ideas. I always watch the food channels to see what's new and interesting and I always think of what I can do to improve our menu and service in our kitchen.'
Nancy has been with Spar from its inception, starting off as a sales assistant 16 years ago and now the Catering Supervisor of Ballito Spar. She maintains very good work relationships with her staff and believes in, it's a Team Effort. That one must know and understand each other's background and circumstances to have a healthy and happy work environment.
When I asked her what is her favourite food I was blown away that a Chef would love pizza and ice cream, the simplest of foods. But yes that is Nancy, a simple, grounded individual that loves spending time with her family and friends.
And when at home she prepares Indian food and tries out new Pastas. She has dreams of travelling the world, starting off with Cape Town and trying local food of each country.
And with the experience of travel and if she wins the LOTTO she wishes to open up her very own Soup Kitchen & Shelter for abandoned and underprivileged children. 'I would love to cook their favourites, food that they have never had a chance to eat before.'
This amazing soul gains her inspiration from Joel Osten from the TBN channel who is a pastor that has given so many hope and belief to relook at their lives and make the change. And that is why her philosophy of life is, 'Live life as it is your last day because tomorrow may never come.'
