KwaDukuza gogos celebrate Christmas with the Mayor

Date: 2012-12-19
KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu visited Lindelani (Ward 5) senior citizens to celebrate Christmas with them.

About 250 Lindelani veterans were thrilled to this joyful Christmas lunch organised by KwaDukuza Municipality.

Ululation was the order of the day when 'the People's Mayor,' Mthembu ascended the fully packed Lindelani community hall, on Wednesday 12 December 2012. Mthembu's arrival was welcomed by a round of applause, accompanied by hysterical screams from elderly residents who attended.

This literally proves that KwaDukuza residents are more than ready for the entire duration of Festive season this year.

Mthembu publicly displayed and showcased his intrinsic love he has for the elderly people when he showered them with goodie bags containing Christmas presents.

Ogogo besiGekle local entertainment gurus wowed the crowds while performing their traditional dance and 'oldies songs.' Local Gogo Mahlabane also recited her folk tales (izinganekwane) to entertain the crowds.

SK Group consisting of four teenage girls from the community also entertained the crowd with their positive kwaito songs about the dangers of having sugar daddies and HIV/AIDS. Their infectious fast paced dancing moves got the house dancing.

The Mayor had this to say, 'It is important that we as Councillors and municipal officials always ensure that we work together without being disturbed by our political affiliations and differences.

Mthembu further gave a finger wagging lecture to those who abuse women and children saying that there is no more space and room left for the wrongdoers in the society.

Ward 5 Cllr. JLT Sibiya commended Mthembu for his community leadership role and visibility of the KwaDukuza Municipality within the Lindelani area, which he says (Lindelani) was neglected before the new Mayor's era.
